REFN: 23 James Beatty Sr was a farmer by occupation. He was a native of townland of Mullycar, county Tyrone, Ireland. Emigrated to United States in 1848 1846-48 James and Agnes Beatty, 4 sons, Alexander, John, Dickson and Benjamin came to Dubuque county from Tyrone Ireland. They were preceeded in the migration by his two sons, James and David also Three daughters, Sarah A., Ester and Margaret. These children were living in Pennsylvania, Mississippi and New York. The family finally all collected in Dubuque county and settled on ajoining farms in Dubuque and Jones countys. Agnes Dixon-Beatty's father was an Elder in the Baptist Church and often was called upon to fill the pulpit.
